London Underground Train Simulator

One of our more specialist projects has been the integration of a train simulation package with sophisticated reporting, graph generation and statistical analysis for London Underground Limited's Modelling and Performance Team.

We developed a vastly superior graphical front end for the simulator, which allows users to quickly and easily run a variety of simulations, and then produce instant reports and graphical plots of the results. The project went live in 2002, with a series of new releases adding new functionality in reponse to user requests. As of 2007, the Automated STS Database has an expanding userbase in LUL, and has also been adopted by Tubelines and performance measurement consultants Cogitare.

ASD as a reporting tool has allowed LUL and Tubelines to make vital decisions about their track and stock infrastructure which have lead to cost savings of millions of pounds.

Catherine Norris at LUL commented on the project:

"The simulation tool we were using to model train performance was cumbersome and rather complicated, leaving room for error and slowing the process down too much.  We needed a tailor-made application that could simplify the input phase, as well as automating the outputs to be plotted onto existing graphs. Loopo was able to develop a bespoke solution that vastly reduced user input time while also automating a great deal of the output, all on a small budget.

Support has always been available within 48 hours, with a ‘whatever it takes to get it done’ approach. The staff are friendly and helpful, clearly conveying ideas and problems on a level that can be understood so that a suitable solution can be obtained.  I have no hesitation in recommending Loopo.”
